Becca's First Cosplay

A couple of weekends ago, Becca and I went to the Utah Winter Faire. (http://www.utahwinterfaire.com/) It's basically an indoor renaissance faire, This was it's first year running and it was pretty awesome. Spencer and I go to conventions and costume parties and things of that nature and we always dress up. This event was no different. I made  Becca a Halloween costume this year, she didn't get to wear it on Halloween but had the chance at the
Faire. She was the Monster High character, Robecca Steam. A terribly steampunk character. Made me so proud that that was her choice...

She got to meet the mermaid Queen,
Steampunk Santa,
Was Knighted,

And placed second in the Hula Hoop contest.

Then she practiced sword fighting and did pretty well,

Until the Winter Queen accidentally poked her in the eye with a spear.

She was alright and took it pretty well. and we even found a super secret Christmas present for Spencer! She had a lot of fun and wants to go next year. I'll probably take her to the outdoor renaissance festival as well.  I love that I can take her to things I enjoy and she has fun as well. Makes me feel all gooey inside. Heh,
So here I am, Trying the blog thing again. My first blog post will be on being a step-parent.

In 2010, Spencer and I met, fell in love and got married. He had just been through a divorce and had a 7 year old child. I was nervous. I didn't want to replace her mom (with whom she lives with during the week), but I wanted her to like me as much as I liked her. It has taken a lot of work. We had not gotten along for months, but slowly we spent more time together and now we get along great! It's been a hard but rewarding journey. If you wonder at all what it was like in the beginning, and even now at times, this article from cracked.com is really very good. There are a couple of swears but it explains things perfectly.
